Karen Huang

I am a Lecturer on History & Literature, where I teach on Asian American studies, transnational U.S. cultural history, and mass media. I received my Ph.D. in English from the University of Virginia and my B.A. in English from McGill University.

My current book project examines how fiction by contemporary U.S.-based writers of color globalizes American cultural and political history, and theorizes the celebrity of these writers as a contemporary form of multiethnic cultural capital.

Recent courses I have taught in History & Literature include a HL90 seminar, "Asian America in Popular Culture," and a Sophomore Tutorial, "Globalization since the 1970s." In Fall 2023, I will be teaching a HL90 seminar entitled "Asian American Cultural Studies."
